Job Vacancy for Synod Safeguarding Officer
The Mersey Synod of the United Reformed Church (URC) which is a charitable organisation, wishes to recruit a Safeguarding Officer, who will work with the 72 United Reformed Churches in the Merseyside Region.
A small team of full-time and part-time employees and volunteers, led by the Synod Moderator, manages and administers the Safeguarding, Property, Finances, Training, Children and Youth Work, Communications and other activities of the Synod from an office adjacent to the United Reformed Church in Wavertree, Liverpool.
The post holder will be the main contact for the churches to advise them on safeguarding children and adults at risk on a day-to-day basis, as well as providing training to a wide range of people as necessary. They will have excellent communication skills, broad experience of networking across organisations, expert knowledge of current statutory safeguarding legislation and the ability to work and travel independently.
Discretion and confidentiality is important, as is an awareness of and willingness to work with the aims, objectives, culture, challenges and Christian ethos of the United Reformed Church.
The requirement is for someone to work 21 hours a week, with occasional weekend and evening working. You will be required to attend the bi-annual meetings of the Synod, which are on Saturdays in March and October. You will also occasionally represent Synod at national meetings in London, and elsewhere when required. Keeping up to date with appropriate professional registration (where relevant) and continuous professional development will be a requirement of the post.
The annual salary will be in the region of £30,600 to £37,400 (full time equivalent) dependent upon experience. Actual salary is in the range of £17,362 to £21,217.
