Mod’s Plod Log Day 3: Follow Revd Geoff Felton on his Holy Week Prayer Walk across Mersey Synod

Mods Plod Log.

Day 3. Wirral.

Matt 21:12-13

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer.’

Today we left Liverpool early for a ferry across the Mersey and found ourselves on the banks for the Wirral at Seacombe.

A short stroll into Seacombe found us at Seacombe URC greeted by a cheerful band of pilgrims who we prayed with and enjoyed a short time of conversation and coffee. From there we set off to New Brighton with its quirky coffee shops, bustling seaside feel and enigmatic bygone days ambience. I couldn’t help but think there was something of a step back in time about New Brighton. We met members of St Andrew’s United Church and were greeted warmly for prayer and conversation.

Then came the longest leg of the pilgrimage so far. Six miles from New Brighton to Meols URC. The journey along the coast was beautiful looking out to sea we could see the Welsh hills in the distance and even caught sight of Anglesey in the distance.

Having said farewell to Meols URC we set off for the final leg of the journey to the leafy West Kirby URC where we gatecrashed a meeting planning future church events. We were able to share the vision for the pilgrimage and prayed God’s blessing on the church and on the local community.

Today we focused our thoughts on Matt 21 and Jesus’ insistence that his fathers house was to be a house of prayer. We considered the importance of prayer and reflected on the challenge to pray in all circumstances. We were challenged by the call for the church to rediscover the transformational power of prayer and the God who is behind our prayer.

Heavenly Father may we rediscover you through prayer.

Help us to commit to a life of listening and acting on your will.

May we recognise  your beauty, holiness and love through the power of prayer.

Soften our hearts and transform our minds we ask.

In the name of Jesus.

Amen.
