Causeway Community Café Opens Its Doors in Warrington
There's now something new to look forward to on Tuesdays: the Causeway Community Café has opened at St John’s church hall (WA4 6ǪE), right next to the ESSO garage.
Open every Tuesday from 10am to 2pm, this lively spot offers homemade food, a friendly atmosphere, and a welcoming environment. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to work or a cheerful table for conversation, the café is designed to be a favourite destination for people of all ages and backgrounds. The notable Warrington Photographic Society is delighted to currently display a collection of historic photographs from Warrington, as well as stunning nature pictures and much more in the café space.
Creating a Welcoming Space
“We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel like they belong,” says Alan , one of the café’s volunteers. “It’s not just about the food—though we’re very proud of our home-made soup and tasty jacket potatoes —it’s about creating a community where people look out for one another.”
Dennis, a regular visitor, adds, “I come here every week now. There’s always someone to have a natter with, and I can catch up over a proper cup of coffee or pot of tea. You never feel alone here, and that’s special in today’s world.”
Who’s Behind the Café?
The café represents a collaborative initiative, organised by committed volunteers from St John’s URC, local residents, and Willow Green College. The café works in partnership with Willow Green College students to facilitate educational activities for individuals aged 16–25 who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

“We’re just ordinary people who love to see our neighbours happy and supported,” says Bernedette, another volunteer. “It’s amazing what can happen when people pull together for a good cause.”
The café has received support from the United Reformed Church and the Co-op Community Fund. The Causeway Community Café has been selected as one of the Co-op's causes for the upcoming year. We would like to encourage our customers to consider supporting this initiative when shopping at the Co-op, as it may result in funding for our operations over the next year. Our Values: Inclusivity and Sustainability
Causeway Community Café stands out for its commitment to inclusivity and environmental responsibility. The team sources as many ingredients as possible from local suppliers and always opts for fair-trade tea and coffee. “We want to make choices that are better for the planet. No one should feel left out, and every meal should be a positive step for our community and the environment,” explains volunteer coordinator Helen.
What’s on Offer?
Beyond tasty food and drink, the café offers a safe, friendly setting to meet new people and unwind. Free Wi-Fi is available for those who wish to work or study, making it an ideal hub for both productivity and relaxation.
Join the Community
“It’s the highlight of my week,” says Janet, a pensioner who recently moved to the area. “I’ve made friends here that I might never have met otherwise. It’s more than a café—it’s a lifeline.”
