Thomas Risley reaches out to local community in continued Eco Church drive

Locking Stumps Community Primary School pupils at the litter pick

From organising regular community litterpicks with pupils from Locking Stumps Primary School to taking part in the Great British Spring Clean with 150 children from Birchwood CofE Primary School,  Thomas Risley URC TReco Group is committed to supporting its local community.

As part of Warrington Litternetworks, the TReco Group gets involved in other litter picks, including the Thomas Morgan Challenge when Cheshire teenager, Thomas Morgan,  challenged Warrington Borough Council to collect 1 tonne of litter in a day.   The Council contacted Warrington Litternetworks who then organised the Litter pick with over 120 volunteers taking part on the day.

Jamie Vermiglio, Headteacher at Locking Stumps Community Primary School, said:

“As a school, we’re incredibly proud to be involved in this community litter pick initiative with Thomas Risley Church. Projects like this go far beyond simply tidying up our environment — they help our pupils develop a real sense of pride, responsibility and belonging. It’s a hands-on way to teach our children about care for their community, teamwork and environmental awareness.

“Seeing our children roll up their sleeves, work together and make a visible difference is inspiring. It reinforces our School and British Values. I’d like to thank everyone who continues to support, especially Malcolm from Thomas Risley Church who has coordinated and played a lead role. “

Thomas Risley URC's Malcolm Ross said:

“We led one of the teams in the Thomas Morgan Challenge, which included several families from Locking Stumps Primary School, as well as Croft Rangers and Locking Stumps Guides. It was a great success and fortunately the weather was kind to us on the day.  The TReco team is now very much involved with Warrington Litternetworks and is part of their Litternetworks Education Team.   We also recycle aluminium cans through Warrington Litternetworks and take crushed cans to Novelis Aluminium Recycling plant most weeks, with proceeds from their charity scheme going to Orford Veterans Group, a registered charity ,Armed Forces Community Support Charity, supporting veterans from the Northwest UK.  Over £4000.00 has been donated to this worthy cause.

“Litter picking is a great activity for getting people involved in the local community as well as giving a sense of well being and we have been approached by other school groups and organisations to provide support - our Thomas Risley Rainbows are joining us for a litter pick as are the Locking Stumps Guides and getting an insight into how to look after what has been created in our community.”

Welcome to Thomas Risley Church, Birchwood, Warrington
