Christmas Across Mersey Synod: Week Three

A third week of wonderful Christmas activities connecting our churches to their communities.

Over United Reformed Church Winsford

Over United Reformed Church Winsford provided Christmas gift bags for both adults and children, and Bible Society booklets were given out at the nativity and gift service, using a using a Mersey Synod Mission Fund Grant

Bags were put onto the graveyard gates over a period of two weeks commencing on Saturday 2nd December.  They were taken by families laying Christmas floral tributes on relatives’ graves, parents of a local school who use the car park for dropping off and collecting children, parents of High Street School and any visitors to the premises. The church welcomed High Street School on three days for a total of five Christmas services which were presented to parents/ relatives. During this time gates were kept well supplied.

There were 30 children’s bags and 20 adult bags hung on the gates. The grant also covered 40 Bible Society Booklets.

Brown Owl had written a script for the Nativity and the Brownies acted this out at the Gift and Nativity Service (10th Dec). Afterwards, the Brownies received a copy of the Booklet and some of them were also handed out to children in the congregation. Spare copies were then given to Brownie leaders to give to the girls who had not come and to Beaver and Cub leaders as these groups were not able to participate in the Service.

Rosamund Ellison, Secretary at Over United Reformed Church Winsford said:

“This is the fourth year we have provided Christmas Bags on the gates for visitors to take away. Over the last two years we have welcomed a small number of visitors to our Sunday services some of whom are now regular worshippers. We are grateful to Synod for the grant which has given us the opportunity to remind people who visit the premises but may not attend worship, the meaning of Christmas. This is particularly so since the cost of caring for our relatively large sanctuary and premises are continually increasing.”
