Living Faith Day: “Discipleship is loving and obeying God with your head, hands and heart”

It was wonderful to have so many URC Mersey Synod churches at the Living Faith Day, a celebration of the Synod theme for the next two years. The event considered the question: How do we live as disciples in our everyday lives?

The interactive day of talks, discussions, workshops and resources were designed to help churches think about 'Living Faith' every day.

The guest speaker was the inspirational, Revd Dr Cris Rogers who discussed what is discipleship, what does it mean and who can be a disciple. Cris is a founder of We Are Making Disciples and has a deep passion for discipleship and apprenticeship in the way of Jesus. There were workshops during the day covering:

  • Living Faith in Small Groups (church discipleship)

  • Living Faith in our Everyday Places (public discipleship)

  • Living Faith (personal discipleship)

Speaking at the event, Stuart Radcliffe said “Living Faith is not about the Sunday but about the rest of the week. Sunday morning isn’t the goal, it’s the place where we are equipped for the rest of the week.”

Wilmslow URC commented in their church newsletter: “Fourteen of us attended the Living Faith Synod event at Hoole URC, Chester. Please ask around and talk to those who attended as I am sure that each of us brought back something different from the day that inspired or challenged us.

“The key phrase shared with us was “Discipleship is loving and obeying God with your head, hands and heart”. Thinking about what discipleship means and how we live out our faith is something we can reflect on and think about how we can weave it into our worship, Church activities and personal lives over the coming months. These and other topics of discussion will be coming through to Church meeting in a couple of weeks’ time.”
