Opportunities for young people to develop their relationship with God: New Mersey Synod Youth Rep, Emma Jackson
Over her 21 years at West Kirby URC, Emma Jackson has led worship (including musical ), helped to develop the team and advocated for opportunities where young people and children can grow in their relationship with God. Now she has been appointed as the new Mersey Synod Youth Rep.
Steven Mitchell, Mersey Synod URC Children and Youth Development Officer, commented:
“The role of a Synod Youth Rep involves being an advocate for under 26s and representing them at various meetings both in the Synod and nationally. This helps to drive the URC strategy of hearing the voices of children and young people and Emma is perfect to lead this through how she is living faith in her everyday life.”
Emma Jackson, Mersey Synod Youth Rep, said:
“I have been at West Kirby URC for 21 years now, but more recently I have been employed as their Worship Development Coordinator. I have the privilege of leading worship but also developing our team and helping to lead the churches musical worship forward in line with our vision.
“Over the last few years, it has been great to be involved with wider Mersey Synod events and also attend Youth Assembly and General Assembly. I also taught and led worship on the URC’s Leading your Church into Growth conference.
“It has really helped to understand the heart of the United Reformed Church more, and getting to meet people and connect with churches has been a real joy.
“As a young adult who is employed in a URC, I see how the church that I have been a part of has loved, discipled, and given me opportunities to lead and grow. By being the Synod Youth Rep I hope to advocate for more opportunities for children and young people to get involved and lead in their local churches and continue to grow in their relationship with God.
“I am looking forward to meeting people and working alongside the other synod youth reps but also getting to chat more deeply about our inspirations and challenges, in the hope that we can encourage each other and continue to move forward in a positive way.
I pray that I would be a vessel for all that God is wanting to do in our local churches, Mersey Synod and the wider URC.”
