Sunshine, Smiles, and 290 Ice Creams: Christ Church URC Haydock’s Summer Fayre Brings the Community Together
On Sunday 28th July, the grounds and halls of Christ Church URC Haydock were transformed into a vibrant hub of joy, laughter, and community spirit as over 250 people gathered for the church’s annual Summer Fayre.
The church hall buzzed with activity, filled with stalls run by local individuals and groups, while the outdoor space came alive with family-friendly attractions. Children bounced gleefully on the bouncy castle and tackled the inflatable assault course, while others tested their skills at “beat the goalie” or got creative with face painting and crafts. The scent of sizzling food from the BBQ filled the air, adding to the festive atmosphere.
A special highlight of the day was the generous support from Amazon, who partnered with the church by sending 11 enthusiastic volunteers. These volunteers helped run craft stations and face painting, and even arranged for a free ice cream van—a huge hit with the crowd. In total, 290 ice creams were handed out, bringing smiles to faces young and old.
Reflecting on the day, Brian Taylor, Church Secretary, shared:
“It was a truly blessed day. God was so good to us with the weather, and the turnout from the community was incredible. We’re so grateful to everyone who helped make it happen—especially our friends from Amazon. Events like this show what can happen when the church and community come together.”
