Songs of Joy and Fellowship at St David’s URC Eastham
The second Ladies Day at St David’s, Eastham took place on Saturday 4th October, arriving with Storm Amy yet bringing a spirit of warmth and fellowship inside the church.
The chosen theme was Worship Him in the beauty of holiness and worship was at the heart of the day. Thirty five ladies gathered from across the country, with friends joining from Leicester, Grimsby, Northampton, Prenton, Liverpool, Bebington, Neston and Formby among others. From the beginning the day was marked by joy and worship.
The morning opened with Louise sharing the history and background of four pictures she had selected. Her reflections on the use of art in worship encouraged participants to look beyond the obvious and notice the intricate details within each painting. Judith Hill, Local Church Leader, said, “Louise helped us to see how art can draw us deeper into worship and open our eyes to the richness of God’s creation.”
Beth then led worship through poetry. She reminded everyone that the Bible is full of poetic language and gave the opportunity to reflect and respond.
Lunch was a time of creativity and fellowship. Attendees were invited to make their own music makers using craft materials provided, ready for the afternoon session. This came after enjoying the packed lunches brought along and the generous spread of cake, trifle and fruit prepared by the St David’s ladies.
The afternoon brought worship through dance. Chris explained how dance had stirred debate through the ages and then gave the chance to move together. It was a lively and refreshing session after lunch.
The day concluded with worship led by Hilary, Marj and Lisa. Through song and music voices were lifted once more. The final act was to share Worship and the Word with Holy Communion and prayer.
Judith Hill reflected that everyone left with a song in their hearts and a memory of fellowship that would stay with them. It was a day of worship, creativity and joy shared among sisters in Christ.
St David’s expressed thanks to all who came and shared in the day and look forward to welcoming friends again next year.
