Peasley Cross URC’s Messy Church celebrate five years of bringing congregation and community together

Peasley Cross URC celebrated five years of bringing its Sunday congregation and families together through Messy Church. This followed the Messy Church format with a time of celebration, songs, stories, crafts and food.

Revd Allison Claxton commented: “This year’s celebration fell on Pentecost Sunday, so we had crafts and stories about the Holy Spirit and the congregation joined in with making ‘Wind Wavers’, ‘Flame Crowns’ and played with bubbles.

“The service also included our recent telling of the story of Moses. We developed this over four sessions and finished with a display of the story which had been put together during that time.

“Messy Church is great to bring the Sunday congregation and families from the local community together, bridging the gap between the two and showcasing what has been happening over the year.

“Families commented that they had a lovely time and that their children had enjoyed making the crafts and playing with the bubbles.”

The service was led by church member Pat Cansfield and Steven Mitchell, URC Mersey Synod Children and Youth Development Officer, along with Revd Allison.

Steven spoke about promises and invited us to tie ribbon promises to crosses. Pat led prayers and songs, also telling the story of Pentecost and how the Holy Spirit moves in our lives and the life of the church. Revd Allison offered ‘feather prayers’ and got everyone up and dancing to some action songs.
